SAN QUINTIN, Abra (PIA) -- The local government unit (LGU) of San Quintin dispersed cattles and other farm inputs to farmers to maximize their yield.
Seven hundred heads of cattle were dispersed to farmers in the six barangays of the municipality. The LGU through the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist (OMAG) also distributed 600 water pumps and 1,500 fertilizers.
These interventions were funded by the LGU from its share under Republic Act 7171, or the law promoting the development of farmers in the Virginia tobacco producing provinces.
“Agriculture is one of the top priorities of the LGU through the initiative of our Mayor since the municipality is one of the towns in the province with the biggest agricultural lands,” San Quintin Municipal Agriculturist Carina Garces said.
Garcia said the LGU has ensured to identify all farmer-beneficiaries so that no one is left behind.
The LGU also distributed various seedlings to the farmer-beneficiaries which can be an alternative source of harvest.
“We also distributed 3,000 grafted mango seedlings, 3,000 rambutan, 2,000 Calamansi and 2,000 Guyabano seedlings,” Garces reported.
She assured that LGU San Quintin will continue to assist the farmer-folks of the town in order for them to recover also from the effects of the recent magnitude 7 earthquake that hit hardly the province. (JDP/CAGT – PIA CAR, Abra)
