BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) – Workers from the national and local government agencies here have recently crafted the Local Climate Change Adaptation Plan (LCCAP) from 2023 to 2030.
The LCCAP contains the development objectives of the province in relation to Climate Change realities and impacts, enhanced objectives to address it and options for low-emission development strategies.
King Webster Balaw-ing of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) said the LCCAP seeks to mitigate the vulnerabilities of the province’s urban population, agriculture assets and natural resources such as rivers and forests.
“Through this LCCAP, we hope to lessen the pressure of hazards such as flooding and Rain-Induced Landslides (RIL) in our vulnerable communities,” he said.
The LCCAP also seeks to minimize the Green House Gas (GHG) emissions in the province through the implementation of various Programs, Projects, Activities (PPAs) and other initiatives and interventions of local government and national government agencies in the province.
Forester Roger Haboc Jr, said based on the research and data gathering of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENARO), 2.4 million tons of Carbon Dioxide GHG emissions has been recorded in Nueva Vizcaya in 2021.
These GHG emissions came from purchased electricity, mobile combustion, crop production, livestock crop production, solid waste disposal, residential waterwaste disposal and forestry and land use change.
“With the implementation of our LCCAP, we expect to lessen our GHG emissions as our contribution to the worldwide campaign to mitigate Climate Change,” Haboc said. (OTB/BME/PIA/NVizcaya)
