NAGA CITY, Camarines Sur (PIA) – Third of its series of Feria de Camarines, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) now features products of agrarian reform beneficiaries. This is dubbed Uma Usbong: Kalakarang LoCARP, from September 1 to 4 at Robinsons Place Naga.
DTI Camarines Sur Officer-in-Charge Jay Percival Ablan said that it has been their advocacy to grow consciousness and appreciation of the local products as they are now prepared to be market-ready.
“We like everyone to know that our agrarian reform beneficiaries are no longer just farmers, they are already entrepreneurs. Their products have come a long way. Before, products were fresh, but now, they come in various processed items. These are results of the collaborative efforts of both Department of Agrarian Reform, Department of Science and Technology, Department of Agriculture, and other support government agencies and private organizations that are partners to help agrarian reform communities,” Ablan said.

DTI also eyes to showcase local products that are ‘globally competitive.’ This fair trade, Ablan said, is a way to witness the developments of the farmers in their skills of merchandising and marketing their products to the local consumers.
“We hope local consumers to support, buy and appreciate local products. There are some products approved by the Food and Drug Administration, that underwent good manufacturing practices. This means that they are safe for human consumption,” the OIC added.

The first leg of Feria de Camarines in March was called ‘Delicioso.’ That spotlighted different food products of 15 micro small and medium enterprises over Camarines Sur province. Ablan said that it generated more than half a million pesos.
The second installment of the feria, ‘Muebles’ has gained about P3.8 Billion in sales, after five days. This, on the other hand, was participated by 10 exhibitors.
This time, the department targets more than a million.
The Rotary Club of Naga as well as the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants – Naga Chapter also signed a memorandum of agreement with DTI Cam Sur for stronger support collaboration in the future. (PIA5/Camarines Sur)
