BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) - - The local government units of Kasibu and Quezon have vowed to implement the Price Tag law to prevent unscrupulous trade practices of business establishments in these towns.
Kasibu Mayor Romeo Tayaban and Quezon Mayor Dolores Binwag, in separate engagements with the officials of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) through their respective Local Price Coordinating Councils (LPCCs), agreed to enact the Price Tag Ordinance.
DTI Provincial Chief Marietta Salviejo praised the move of the two LGUs in the province to adopt the Price Tag law.
“This proposed ordinance mandates the placement of price tags on all articles of commerce offered for sale on a retail basis. It will ensure consumer protection from unscrupulous business owners,” she said.
Salviejo said the proposed adoption of the Price Tag law by the two LGUs came after majority of the business establishments visited and checked were not displaying the exact prices of their products.
She said consumer complaints against the unjustifiable practice of public market vendors and business owners of not placing price tags that indicate the exact price per unit of the different Basic Necessities and Prime Commodities (BNPCs) were also noted.
The MLGU-based LPCCs of the two LGUs were oriented on Republic Act 7581 or the Price Act of the Philippines, as well as their roles and responsibilities in managing unreasonable and excessive price increases of BNPCs as stated in the Joint Memorandum Circular (JMC) No. 3, series of 2020 of DILG, DTI, DA, DOH, and DENR, the provincial director added.
“We hope that the LGUs of Kasibu and Quezon will have their Price Tag Ordinance soon to further safeguard the welfare and rights of their consumer sector,” she said. (MDCT/BME/PIA Nueva Vizcaya)
