DOT to hold tourism job fair in Cebu

CEBU CITY, Cebu, Sept. 13 (PIA) -- The Department of Tourism (DOT), in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Department of Manpower Development and Placement (DMDP) of the Cebu City Government, will be spearheading a two-day job fair in Cebu dubbed "2022 Trabaho, Turismo, Asenso Tourism Job Fair Cebu" from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sept. 22-23 at Trade Hall, SM City Cebu, Cebu City.

This two-day career expo is part of the initial leg of the "Trabaho Turismo, Asenso! Philippine Tourism Job Fair" which will be held simultaneously in the cities of Cebu, Manila, and Davao from Sept. 22-24.

The multi-month series of job fairs will conclude in May 2023 to mark the 50th founding anniversary of DOT.

The activity aims to link workers affected by the pandemic and employment opportunities in the recovering tourism industry, where more than 1,000 job vacancies involving full-time job posts and part-time openings from various participating tourism establishments and allied industries await job seekers in the said event.

During the press conference held Sept. 12, DOT7 Chief Tourism Operations Officer Judy Dela Cruz-Gabato said around 30 tourism establishments will showcase their job offerings to Cebuanos who are looking for employment opportunities in the tourism sector.

Hotel, Resort, and Restaurant Association of Cebu, Inc. (HRACC) President Alfred Reyes pledged their full support to the tourism job fair, noting that the event would be an opportunity for tourism businesses to address workforce shortages by acquiring the needed manpower as the industry gears up towards full recovery after being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Among the job openings in Cebu are reservation officers, housekeeping attendants, front office personnel, service attendants, passage tellers, sales consultants, waiters, and tourist drivers.

Some of the participating establishments include the Savoy Hotel, Bai Hotel Cebu, One Central Hotel, Waterfront Hotel and Casino, Radisson Blu Cebu, and Mezzo Hotel. (RGC/PIA7 Cebu)
