BALANGA CITY (PIA) -- Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) completed a multipurpose facility at barangay West Calaguiman in Samal, Bataan.
 
The P6.9 million infrastructure was funded under the 2022 General Appropriations Act.
 
DPWH Bataan 1st District Engineer Erlindo Flores Jr. said the project includes the construction of a 390 square meter covered court with a 37.5 square meter stage area.
 
“Its design is a combination of structural steel for columns and trusses, pre-painted metal sheet for roofing, and 100-millimeter-thick slab with non-slip paint,” he explained.
 
For his part, Barangay Captain Bernardo Pinili shared what happened when a fire engulfed several houses in the area and the affected residents had difficulty finding temporary shelter
 
“Malaking bagay na nagawa itong covered court para sa barangay namin lalo na sa kabataan, senior citizen at iba pang residente dahil magagamit nila itong pagdausan ng kanilang activity… isang malaking bagay ito na naitulong sa amin ng DPWH,” he recalled.
 
DPWH is keen on providing local communities with covered courts that can host various service delivery activities and at the same time offer temporary shelter during emergencies. (CLJD-PIA 3)
