Cavite takes part in a nationwide simultaneous tree planting activity

TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite (PIA) – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), and the Department of Agriculture recently participated in the Nationwide Simultaneous Tree Planting Activity themed “Buhayin ang Pangangalaga sa Kalikasan”, at Barangay Gregorio, Trece Martires City.

DILG Director Lionel L. Dalope led the activity along with representatives from DENR – Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO), and the Provincial Agriculture Office.

The activity aimed to intensify the involvement of the local government units (LGUs) in the maintenance and protection of the environment.

Dir. Dalope explained the importance of this activity as he said, “Ang panahon na kinakaharap natin ay hamon ng kawalan ng malinis at maaasahang tubig.” (The time we are facing is a challenge of not having clean and reliable water.)

In his interview with PIA-Cavite, Dir. Dalope disclosed that the activity was held in Barangay Gregorio due to its accessibility to all participants, as well as the barangay’s active participation in these kinds of activities being a partner barangay to the local CENRO and having an area for this purpose.

“About 200 – 300 trees composed of bamboo trees (Kawayang Tinik) and fruit-bearing trees (Avocado, Langka, Guyabano) will be planted in the area with an initial 100 trees to be planted during the activity,” Dir. Dalope disclosed.

With more than one hundred participant volunteers from the provincial government, city government of Trece Martires, Barangay Gregorio, and civil society organizations, the tree planting activity was a success, and succeeding activities in the coming weeks are all set to complete the target number of trees to be planted.
