CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela (PIA) - - The Department of Agriculture (DA) is continuously promoting organic agriculture farming to individual, association and farmers' cooperatives in the region through the conduct of the 5th Regional Organic Agriculture Congress.
The 5th Regional Organic Agriculture Congress was conducted on September 8, 2022 at Cagayan Valley Research Center (CVRC) - Annex at barangay Baligatan in this city led by DA where organic agriculture practices are being lectured and showcased by organic agriculture experts from the agriculture department.
DA Organic Agriculture Program Advocacy and Policy Division Head Lea Deriduito urged region 2 farmers to strive and inspire to sustain their organic agriculture practices and in producing safe and healthy food for Filipinos.
Deriquito was impressed by the DA's promotion of organic farming as she saw the different organic agriculture practices inside the CVRC where various vegetables are planted including the organic fertilizers and pesticides on display.
The CVRC annex according to DA - 2 Technical Director for Research and Regulations Dr. Rosemary Aquino is one of the DA-2’s organic agriculture areas in the region where farmers are visiting and replicating what the DA is doing on organic farming in their respective places.

Aquino said there are other DA - 2 organic agriculture farms in other parts of the region and even farmers, associations and farmer cooperatives are practicing organic farming and being visited by interested farmers who want to practice organic farming.
Meanwhile, DA - 2 Regional Director Narciso Edillo said the high prices of inorganic fertilizers divert farmers to organic farming as organic fertilizers are cheaper compared to inorganic fertilizer use.
He said the DA - 2 is assisting organic farmers to grow their respective agriculture products up to marketing. (BME/MGE / PIA Isabela)
