CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) – The Department of Agriculture (DA) Mimaropa recently distributed fertilizer discount vouchers to 2,774 rice farmers from the 56 barangays in the town of Naujan.
The distribution process was led by the municipal government with Mayor Henry Joel Teves through the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAgO) headed by Municipal Agriculturist Raquelita M. Umali and the presence of DA Regional Field Unit Agricultural Program Coordinator Artemio Casareno.
Umali said the fertilizer voucher is one way of supporting rice farmers in relation to the constant increase in the price of fertilizers in the market.
The total amount of vouchers distributed has reached up to P13,844,344 for the first batch of the distribution.
As support of the program, Teves expressed his high regard for farmers as he said they continue to make efforts to ensure a certain source of food despite the continuous increase in the price of fertilizers and other challenges during the pandemic.
Teves said his interaction with other government agencies will continue for the benefit of the farmers. He also ensured farmers that apart from the fertilizers, the farmers would continue to enjoy many other blessings under his administration.
The agriculture sector is one of the priority programs of Naujan LGU under its ‘Hakbanging Pang-agrikultura’ program implementation. (LTC/PIA-OrMin)
