CABANATUAN CITY (PIA) -- Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) built an 86-meter hanging bridge at Sitio Santolan, Barangay Minuli in Carrangalan, Nueva Ecija.
With this, residents of three sitios namely Santolan, Malidi and Sentro will no longer have to endure the danger of crossing the Talavera River.
DPWH Nueva Ecija 1st District Engineer Armando Manabat disclosed that P4.9-million was earmarked for the project under the 2022 General Appropriations Act.
“Farmers can now access this area without putting their lives at risk while crossing the river especially during the rainy season. According to the municipal government, the strong current and rapid flow caused life-threatening incidents in recent years,” Manabat furthered.
Students who recently returned to face-to-face classes will also have ease of travel as the bridge is only about 700 meters away from Minuli Elementary School.
In an interview, Barangay Minuli Chairperson Edgardo Florentino expressed his delight in the implementation of the project as his constituents will no longer use makeshift wooden platforms when passing through the water to access essential products and services.
“Noon, nakakaawa po ang ating mga ka-barangay dahil halos lumalangoy po sila sa ilog. Nakikipagsapalaran po sila sa agos ng tubig para lang makabili ng bigas at ibang pangangailangan,” Florentino shared. (CLJD-PIA 3)
