LINGAYEN, Pangasinan (PIA) - The Local Government Unit of Lingayen is a recipient of the Regional Gawad Pagkilala awarded by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources- Region 1 (BFAR).
The awarding ceremony was held in San Fernando City, La Union on September 16 during the Regional Culmination Program of the 59th Fish Conservation Week.
The award is given to the local government that implements strict implementation of anti-illegal fishing, distribution of paraphernalia to fisherfolks to have more knowledge when it comes to fishing, provision of livelihood opportunities to different coastal barangays and much more.
Fish Conservation Week is observed annually to further develop and enrich the fishing sector in the country while at the same time promoting and developing the said industry in order to provide abundant harvest and income to the local fishermen.
Mayor Leopoldo N. Bataoil is grateful to BFAR for continuing to recognize the LGU's projects and activities not only in fisheries matters but also in agriculture.
“Our humble municipality promises to continue providing good services to fellow fishermen and farmers,” Bataoil said.
BFAR first recognized the good management of LGU Lingayen in matters of agriculture after it qualified in the Malinis and Masaganang Karagatan (MMK) Program-Search for Outstanding Coastal Community.
This is a banner program of BFAR that was started in the year 2016 and aims to give honor to the municipalities in the country that have unique initiatives in the preservation and responsible development of the ocean. (JCR/JPD/RPM, PIA Pangasinan)
