Cavite towns benefit from irrigation projects

TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite (PIA) - The National Irrigation Authority (NIA) through its Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program-Irrigation Component (CARP-IC) recently turned over two newly completed Solar Pump Irrigation Projects (SPIP) to two municipalities in the province.

The local governments of Tanza and Magallanes towns received the respective SPIPs in separate turnover ceremonies held in Sitio Gugo Tres Cruzes in Tanza and in Baliwag, Magallanes.

Sitio Gugo Tres Cruzes SPIP has a capacity to irrigate a total of 16 hectares of agricultural lands and will benefit 24 farmers under the Tres Cruzes Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Farmers Association, Inc. while Baliwag SPIP is also set to irrigate 16 hectares of 10 farmer beneficiaries belonging to the Baliwag Farmers Association of Magallanes, Inc.

In his full support to the agriculture sector, Regional Manager Wilson Lopez said, “Isa po sa mahalagang salik ng ekonomiya ang maunlad na agrikultura. Kaya naman kami sa NIA ay nagpupursige na mapalawak pa ang mga lupang sakahan sa bansa na maayos na napapatubigan.”

(It is one of the important factors of the economy is prosperous agriculture. That is why we at NIA are striving to expand the agricultural lands in the country that are properly irrigated.)

DAR Usec. Atty. Milagros Cristobal, in her speech, challenged the farmer-beneficiaries and agrarian reform beneficiaries to use the irrigation project wisely and efficiently.

“Ang challenge ko po sa inyo, bukod sa pangalagaan natin ang proyektong patubig na ito ay ang paglago ng inyong samahan. May suporta na binigay na sa inyo ang gobyerno kaya asahan namin ang paglago ninyo bilang grupo kasabay na mgandang ani at mataas na kita,” said Atty. Cristobal.

(My challenge to you, aside from taking care of this irrigation project, is the growth of your organization. The government has already given you support so we can expect your growth as a group along with a good harvest and increased income.)

Meanwhile, NIA Deputy Admin. Ralph Lauren Du of the Administrative and Finance Sector thanked the farmer-beneficiaries for their drive and cooperation towards the realization of the said projects.

(To all farmers, thank you very much for your cooperation to make this a success. Let's continue to join hands in taking care of it so that this solar pump will last a long time.)

These projects were funded under CARP-IC to aid Agrarian Reform Communities (ARCs). Construction for these projects commenced on March 2022 and completed ahead of time on August 2022.  (RBF/PIA-Cavite)
