Bacoor City holds Musiko 2022 marching band parade & competition

BACOOR CITY, Cavite (PIA) – The city government of Bacoor held the ‘Musiko 2022: The Grandest Marching Band Street Parade and Field Show Competition in the Philippines’ headed by City Mayor Strike Revilla along with city officials and employees this September 25.

The program started with a holy mass at the St. Michael the Archangel Parish, Barangay Poblacion followed by a street parade en route to the oval track of the Bacoor Elementary School – Alima 1 where ten (10) competing marching bands from various towns in the province as well as from other provinces such as Quezon and Pampanga will execute their winning band performance.

Mayor Revilla shared in his speech the city’s history of being the birthplace of the oldest living marching bands in the country as well as the city government's supports to the community marching bands and school-based drum and lyre corps.

He stated that the first marching band competition in Bacoor was held in 2011 and since then had been a part of the annual celebration of the Bakood Festival. The city also hosted the first international marching band competition in the Philippines, the Bacoor International Music Championships in 2018.

During his term as First District of Cavite Representative, Mayor Strike Revilla worked hard for the signing of Proclamation No.939 s. 2020 by then-president Rodrigo Roa Duterte that declared the City of Bacoor as the Marching Band Capital of the Philippines.

“This is a recognition that Bacooreños should be proud of, dahil simbolo ito ng ating husay, pagmamahal sa musika, at determinasyon,” stated Mayor Strike Revilla.

He also addressed the competing bands to do their best and wished them good luck in the competition.

The competing bands include: Banda 4 Lucban, from the land of colourful festival and fun-loving people with a love for music, the town of Lucban, Quezon; Banda 48 Lumanug, founded by Esteban Lumanug Sr. in San Nicolas Betis, Guagua, Pampanga; Saint Joseph Band 98, founded and established in 1974 with its name derived as a tribute to the patron saint of Bailen Saint Joseph; Sta. Cruz band, the first municipal band of the Municipality of Tanza established on September 14, 2003; Saint Mary Magdelene Band 98, founded by the late Mr. Renato Binalay on July 18, 1998 and named after “Saint Mary Magdalene” patron saint of Kawit town; Primero 1 Band founded on January 1, 2001 in Bucal, Maragondon, Cavite; St. Jude Band 90 founded by the Saint Jude Thaddeus Association on December 29, 1990; St. Augustine Band of Tanza town, established in September 1986 first known as Banda Soriano during the late 1970s and as St. Anthony Band of Tanza until 1983; Music Foundation Band of Dasmariñas founded by some of the known musicians of Dasmariñas; and the local, multi-awarded marching band from Rosario, Cavite, the Holy Rosary Band established in May 2014.

Several marching bands from the city also joined the live street parade for the first time in celebration of the annual event amidst the on-going pandemic.
