SAN FERNANDO CITY (PIA) – La Union continues to prepare for the possible impacts of Super Typhoon Karding.
On Sunday afternoon, Governor Raphaelle Veronica Ortega-David officially suspended classes on all levels in both public and private schools in the Province of La Union on Monday, September 26, following the anticipated effects of the super typhoon Karding by virtue of Executive Order No. 23, series of 2022.
Work in government offices in the province is also suspended except for those offices involved in disaster and emergency response.
The governor also encouraged the suspension of work in private companies which remains at the discretion of the management.
“Business establishment owners are encouraged to also suspend work in their respective establishments to ensure the safety of their employees,” she said.
Further, the latest weather bulletin of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Council issued at 5 p.m. on Sunday reported a total of 22 families and 54 persons who were evacuated in Barangay Mindoro in the Municipality of Bangar.
The report stated that the evacuees are currently being served at the Municipal Evacuation Center.
In San Fernando City, relief packs have been prepositioned in Barangays Catbangen, Cabaroan, Biday, Bato, Madayegdeg, and Sevilla. Julie Ann Hipona, city DRRM officer, said each pack contains five kilos of rice and 10 pieces of canned goods.
Other local government units are on red alert status and are closely monitoring their areas of jurisdiction.
As of this writing, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 is hoisted over the whole province of La Union due to the super typhoon. (JCR/JPD, PIA La Union)
