Antique Army reservists join R6 DRRM challenge

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA)  - - The 602nd Ready Reserve Infantry under Lieutenant Colonel Rhodora J. Cadiao, Philippine Army (Res), participated in the conduct of Reserve Command (RESCOM), Philippine Army Disaster Risk and Reduction Operation (DRRO) 2022 Regional Challenge.

The event was held at the headquarters of 6th Regional Community Defense Group (6RCDG), Camp Gen Adriano Hernandez, Dingle, Iloilo recently.

Antique 602nd officer-In-Charge Lt. Col. Erwin Ilaya, in a press release, said that the activity hopes to enhance the disaster risk operation skills of the personnel (organic and reservists) and to generate awareness of the role of reserve command and 6th Regional Community Defense Center in disaster risk operations.

The event also generated a pool of responders during calamities and deve-

loped competitiveness and sportsmanship among the participants.

There were six teams from Ready Reserve Infantry Battalions (RRIBns) composed of 601st (Aklan), 602nd (Antique), 603rd (Capiz), 604th(Iloilo) 605th(Negros Occidental), and 606th (Guimaras) RRIBn. Each team was composed of 10 participants with one organic personnel and nine army reservists.

The team competed for the following skills:  boat handling, 100 meters swim event, water rescue, emergency rescue transfer, bandaging, and knot tying.

After three days of friendly competition, 602nd (Antique) RRIBn team was declared as Best Swimmer and Best in Boat Handling.

Of the six (6) participating teams, Antique placed first runner up while the 603rd (Capiz) RRIBn was declared as the over-all champion.

Ilaya noted that the activity was very competitive but it as well created friendship and fellowship among DRRO personnel from six  Ready Reserve Infantry Battalions) in Western Visayas.

The activity also led to the fostering of collaboration and cooperation on matters related to humanitarian assistance and disaster response among responders of the different reserve commands.

He expressed his gratitude to the 602nd RRIBns enlisted reservist participants, Technical Sergeant Arman Y. Lorenzo (AGS), PA, who served as team leader.

He also lauded the support of Governor  Cadiao, the Battalion Commander and Vice-Governor Edgar Denosta, the Bn Ex-O, 602nd (Antique) RRIBn.

This activity is in line with the 5-Key Priority Areas of the Reserve Command and Philippine Army in strengthening the Army Reservists on disaster preparedness during calamities and disasters in their respective areas in close collaboration with the Local Government Units (LGUs).
