DA to distribute rambutan seedlings to Kalinga farmers

CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga (PIA) – The Department of Agriculture-Cordillera (DA-CAR) is set to distribute rambutan seedlings to farmers in the province under the Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) program.

Provincial Agriculturist Domingo Bakilan said the P1.7 million fuit seedling distribution project aims to boost the High Value Crops Program in the province.

The project is expected to push the province’s fruit industry that is now a potential income source among farmers.

Under the project, grafted rambutan seedlings from the accredited Fruit Farm in Batangas are introduced to the province’s fruit industry, Bakilan elaborated. The seedlings are treated and cultured to be free from virus.

Certified as “proto-type variety”, these seedlings bear the qualities of the mother-tree carrying the same taste, yield and resiliency.

Rambutan farming which has already taken-off in some barangays here is seen to further grow with this government assistance. (JDP/LL-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
