TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite (PIA)– The Teofely Nature Farm, an accredited Regional Extension Service Provider (ESP) in the municipality of Silang recently hosted the last batch of the “Refresher Capability Enhancement Course for Agricultural Extension Workers (Approaches to Integrated Nutrient Management for Rice)”.
The enhancement training held from September 19-21 was initiated by the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) CALABARZON, in partnership with the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) Los Baños which aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of the participants in the Balanced Fertilization Strategy (BFS) for rice and Integrated Nutrient Management based on the Palaycheck System.
Twenty-five (25) staff from the Department of Agriculture- Regional Field Office IV-A, APCO Offices of CALABARZON, DA Regional Crop Protection Center IV-A, Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) Region IV, Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice), and Agricultural Credit Policy Council (ACPC) participated in the said training.
ATI CALABARZON Officer-In-Charge (OIC)-Training Center Superintendent II, Dr. Rolando V. Maningas, and Ms. Soledad Leal, OIC Chief of Partnerships and Accreditation Services Section led the opening of the seminar.
"This training is a great opportunity for everyone to learn and improve your knowledge of Integrated Nutrient Management," said Dr. Rolando V. Maningas.
Lecturers in the training were Allan Jade V. Rojo of the Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority (FPA IV), Ms. Lilian M. Telmo of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist Cavite, Mr. Wilfredo B. Collado, Wendy B. Abonitalla, Ms. Virginia Ompad of PhilRice Los Baňos and Ms. Janine L. Cailo of ATI CALABARZON.
Aside from the lectures, the participants witnessed a demonstration of the Minus One Element Technique (MOET) during their visit to PhilRice, Los Baños.
Also, completion of this training earned Continuing Professional Development (CPD) units for all twenty-five trainees.
The Teofely Native Pig Farm is formerly Lumil Natural Farms which advocates for improving, developing, and conserving the Philippine Native Pig breed. As ESP of the Department of Agriculture, the establishment also extends training seminars about native swine farming as well as cooking Lechon and other products. (RBF/PIA-Cavite)
