Antique’s Binirayan 2022 Execom convenes, tackles progress

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) – The Executive Committee (Execom) of the Binirayan Festival 2022 convened, September 30, to discuss progress on the preparations for Antique’s biggest festival this December.

Two months into the start of the festivities, the Execom meeting was called to finalize the list of events and activities, reiterate the functions of the sub-committees, and identify issues that require immediate action.

Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) member and renowned Kinaray-a music icon Dante Beriong presided over the meeting attended by executive committee members from various provincial government offices and National Government Agencies (NGA).

Among in attendance are representatives from the Office of Antique Lone District Representative Antonio Agapito Legarda, Jr., Department of Education (DepEd), Provincial Tourism Office (PTO), Environment and Natural Resources Office (ENRO), Provincial Information Office (PIO), and Antique Police Provincial Office (APPO).

SP member Beriong, on behalf of Governor Rhodora Cadiao, has requested the local police to intensify police visibility

and security support throughout the festivities as Antiqueños and visitors alike are expected to flock to the streets of the capital town San Jose de Buenavista.

The public must therefore expect traffic rerouting in December to pave way for the activities in line with the Binirayan Festival 2022.

The 21 days-long celebrations will be from December 1-21 and will include Tanuman Festival, Binirayan Turismo Display, Fiesta Binirayan Food and Trade Fair, Opening of Lights, Fireworks Display, Lin-ay kang Antique, the Reenactment of the Establishment of the First Malay Settlement, Balangay Parade, cultural and talent shows, and the Malay-Ati Tribal Dance Competition.

Binirayan Festival is an annual event in Antique province that commemorates the arrival of the ten Bornean datus in Malandog – now part of Hamtic town – considered the first Malay settlement in the country.

The festival is intended to honor the Malay roots of the locals and celebrate Antiqueño culture and identity. (AAL/BPS/PIA Antique)
