More job order, COS employees enrolled as SSS members

SAN FERNANDO CITY (PIA) – More job order and contract of service workers in two government organizations in La Union will be eligible to avail of Social Security System (SSS) benefits.

The SSS La Union recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Local Government (LGU) of Luna and the Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office 1 to enroll a total of 180 JO and COS workers under the SSS’ KaltaSSS-Collect Program.

According to Christian Rillorta, regional communications officer of SSS North Luzon 1 Division, said workers who are not covered by the Government Service Insurance System due to their employment status shall be registered as Self-Employed Members of the SSS.

“Their respective agencies will remit their monthly contributions to SSS through a salary deduction scheme,” Rillorta said.

On its official Facebook page, LGU said “We at LGU-Luna, take care of our employees, particularly job orders, by enrolling them in the for protection and benefit grants in the future.”

As self-employed members, the workers are now entitled to receive Social Security benefits such as Sickness, Maternity, Disability, Retirement, Death, and Funeral.

“They may also avail of the various SSS loan privileges such as Salary, Calamity, and Educational Assistance,” Rillorta added.

Further, self-Employed members may also receive additional benefits from Employees’ Compensation for contingencies like Sickness, Funeral, and Death arising from work-related incidents.

Rillorta said qualifying conditions for these benefits and loan privileges shall apply to the newly-enrolled SSS members.

The SSS hopes to forge more partnerships with other government entities and to do the same for the social security protection of their qualified workers.  (JCR/JPD, PIA La Union)
