LAOAG CITY (PIA) – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Ilocos Norte has launched the Birth Registration Assistance Project (PBRAP) which aims to assist residents from marginalized communities to register their birth certificate.
 
In this project, the PSA will go directly to the different municipalities and cities in the province to register residents for their birth certificate and also for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys).
 
“Two-in-one itong goal natin sa project na ito. I-register natin sila para mabigyan ng birth certificate and after that, i-register na rin sila sa PhilSys. So may birth certificate na sila, may PhilID pa,” Johnsen Jett Asuncion, PhilSys provincial coordinator of the PSA provincial office, explained.

This continuous project of the PSA is in line with the Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Decade for 2015-2024 which upholds the continuous and compulsory recording of births, deaths, marriages and other acts and events concerning civil status of persons.
 
According to Asuncion, the PSA targets a 100% birth certificate registration for the province.
 
“We are encouraging all residents na kung alam nila na hindi registered ang birth certificate sa PSA or sa munisipyo nila na i-tap ang municipal o city civil registrar upang ma-include sila sa mga matutulungan ng Birth Registration Assistance Project na ito,” Asuncion encouraged.
