MATI CITY, Davao Oriental— Agriculture and tourism are the primary tools that Provincial Governor Corazon Malanyaon is banking on to address poverty and uplift the lives of her constituents.
In the consultation on the Davao Regional Development Plan recently conducted by the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) XI, Governor Malanyaon cited her development agenda as “simple and straightforward” as this focuses primarily on poverty reduction.
“Defeating poverty has always been the battle cry of my administration. That’s why this early, on my first 100 days in office, we have started putting on the ground specific programs all aimed at defeating poverty,” said Gov. Malanyaon as she shared her ‘Development Agenda and Program Governance with a Heart.”
As she embarks on a new term as the provincial governor, Malanyaon banners development program dubbed as Oplan Karsada, Oplan Pailaw, Oplan Patubig, Improved Pagkain at Kita (IMPAK).
She also puts premium on renewable energy resources, and on tourism program called the “Davao Oriental Beautiful” .
The Provincial Information Office (PIO) said “these programs directly support the agriculture and tourism sectors, enabling farmers to increase their income and making the province a tourism and investment-ready haven”.
Banking on agriculture and tourism as the main economic drivers of the local economy, Malanyaon said Davao Oriental has what it takes to scale up local farming into an industry, and to position the province as a premier tourist destination.
