E-nutribun adaptors in Kalinga now supplying bread to DepEd, DSWD

CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga(PIA) - - Five adaptors of E-Nutribun in the province are now supplying the enhanced nutribun bread to the two Division Offices of the Department of Education in Kalinga, and the Department of Social Welfare and Development in support to their feeding programs.

The enhanced nutribun or E-Nutribun, the new variation of the well-known bread in the 1970’s, is a technology developed by the Department of Science and Technology- Food, Nutrition and Research Institute (DOST-FNRI) as a science driven solution to address hunger and malnutrition.

The E-Nutribun has more micronutrients like iron and vitamin A and softer texture. This vitamin-packed bread comes in three variants- squash, carrot, and sweet potato.  It   weighs 160- 165 grams per piece which is easier for children to hold and bite.

This is also one of DOST-FNRI’s support  to the  DSWD Memorandum Circular No. 12 Series of 2020, or the Guidelines in the Implementation of the Supplementary Feeding Program During Community Quarantine or Other Similar Emergencies.

DOST Kalinga personnel recently visited EJ-ED Highlands Flavor, Mt. Zion Bakery, and Cabaruan Multipurpose Cooperative, the three e-nutribun adaptors in Tabuk City, to ensure that their products are within standards.

DOST also signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Kajchilan Multipurpose Cooperative in Balbalan on S & T intervention for the upgrading of their production facility on Enhanced Nutribun Products.  Funded under the Local Grants-in-Aid, the project also aims to capacitate the organization on appropriate technologies, relevant trainings, product laboratory analyses, packaging and labelling.
