NIA-2 eyes to irrigate 91,558 hectares in Isabela

CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela (PIA) - - The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) - Region 2 is planning to irrigate 91,558 hectares of lang in the province of Isabela in the succeeding years.

The agency's Technical Specialist, Engr. Federico Ordinario, Jr., made the report during the joint Provincial Development Council (PDC), Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC), Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC), Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (PTF-ELCAC), and Provincial Solid Waste Management Board (PSWMB) meeting held on September 30, 2022 at the Capitol Amphitheater.

Ordinario said that the potential irrigable area in the province is 238,410.74 hectares, out of which a total area of 146,852 hectares are already irrigated or 61.60 percent developed from the potential irrigable area, with the remaining 91,558.55 hectares still to be irrigated.

He also said that there are proposed big ticket irrigation projects, which include the Tumauini Multi-purpose Irrigation Project, Ilaguen Multipurpose Irrigation and Power Project, Delfin Albano-Sto. Tomas Pump Irrigation Project, Palanan Irrigation Project, Abuan Small Reservoir Irrigation Project, and Balasig Small Reservoir Irrigation Project.

The said projects were have already collectively undergone feasibility studies.

He said that these big irrigation projects are projected to increase the irrigated area in the province by 56,945 hectares and will surely add the rice production in Isabela once these projects are realized. (MGE / PIA Isabela)
