Vigan City boosts tourism with ‘One Barangay One Product’

VIGAN CITY (PIA) — The City Government of Vigan featured its local food and products through the launching of the “One Barangay One Product” Tourism Trade Fair for the celebration of the recent 2022 World Tourism Day in front of the city hall.

The skinless Vigan longganisa of Barangay VIII, the Lubi-Lubi of Barangay San Julian Sur, the walis tambo of Barangay Tamag, Abel Iloko of Barangay Camangaan, and the red clay pots of Barangay Pagburnayan are only a few of the showcased products at the food and trade fair.

Vigan Mayor Jose Bonito Singson, Jr. said that the city government is able to see the abilities of the citizenry through this event.

“This is now the One Barangay, One Product which hopefully becomes successful, so those in the barangays will be encouraged to grow their business,” the local chief executive said.

He added that they have programs to strengthen the products, the product development and the promotion of the products through the establishment of Vigan Trading Corporation as well as a counterpart of the Department of Trade and Industry in the city.

“We want to be able to provide large quantities of orders or products if there are big clients who have such demands. If we can only offer small quantities then they will look for other suppliers, we have to be able to cater to them especially if we will expand our market,” he said.

Bigueños celebrated World Tourism Day from Oct. 4-8.

Along with the "One Barangay, One Product" Tourism Trade Fair, the city also conducted competitions including Tourism Video Promotional Competition, Photography Competition, and Vlog Competition.

It also organized a heritage walking tour between Oct. 3 and 7, and the cultural presentation and awarding ceremony on Oct.8.

The Vigan City Museum, which can be recalled was unveiled during the World Heritage Cities Solidarity Day celebration in September, was opened for free admission from October 4 to 5. (JCR/JPD/ATV, PIA Ilocos Sur)
