DHSUD urges LGUs to help ‘Pambansang Pabahay’

BACOLOD CITY (PIA)— Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Region 6 OIC Regional Director Eva Maria P. Marfil appealed to Local Government Units (LGU) executives to help promote the housing program of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.   dubbed "Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino Program: Zero ISF (Informal Settler Family) by 2028."

The DHSUD is urging LGUs to look for the lot for the housing project and link with other agencies to build the houses, she stressed during the 3rd quarter meeting of the Regional Development Council 6 at the L’ Fisher Hotel here.

Marfil said the primary beneficiaries of the project are informal settler families and low-salaried employees both in the government and private sectors.

The program is also open to those who already own a house but are living with their family and professionals who want to own a house of their own.

With a national target of 6 million houses across the country, Region 6 has a share of 80,000 units of homes to be built, that they hope can be delivered before the term of President Marcos Jr. ends, she added.

Groundbreaking ceremonies were already held in Bacolod City, Iloilo City and in Roxas City, Capiz for the urban housing project last month, she noted.

The cities of Silay and Victorias in Negros Occidental and another one in Iloilo have already signed the memorandum of agreement but have not yet held the groundbreaking.

In Bacolod, she said, Mayor Albee Benitez is aiming to build 10,000 units but will first pilot some 1,500 houses.

Marfil clarified that the housing program is not free but subsidies will come in the form of interest, and not in the principal amount the beneficiaries will pay. (AAL/Lljr/PIA 6 Negros Occidental)
