MisOr PAGRO starts FAITH Project

MISAMIS ORIENTAL (PIA)--Focusing on the food availability and food security of the province, Misamis Oriental Provincial Agriculture Office through the Misamis Oriental Provincial Local Government launched the Food is Always In The Home (FAITH) Project.

FAITH is one of the strategies adopted by PAGRO to address the food security of the province through the implementation of backyard gardening.

The project will initially start in one barangay in every component city and municipality with five farmer beneficiary members per barangay and an area requirement of 500 square meters.

To help the beneficiaries start the project PAGRO offers assistance to them through technical support via land preparation, planting, care and maintenance, and pest and disease monitoring.

Aside from technical support, PAGRO will be providing inputs to the farmer-beneficiaries such as seeds, organic fertilizers, shovels, spading forks, plastic drums, knapsack sprayers, weighing scales, foliar fertilizer, liquid insecticides, and molasses.

PAGRO aims to increase the number of beneficiaries in the succeeding years and will continue support to the existing beneficiaries through the conduct of training and capacity building regularly to ensure production of the backyard gardens will be sustained.

On the other hand, to further boost the agriculture sector of Misamis Oriental a proposed program for the demonstration and rejuvenation of high-value crops such as cacao and coffee aims for better production of these commodities.

To attain such production the Department of Agriculture is distributing fertilizers and other inputs to support high-value crops like organic fertilizer, grower inducer, and plastic crates to some identified areas in the province.

With these initiatives, MisOr PAGRO aims to address the problem of food security amid rising prices of commodities and to provide affordable food supply in every household of each Misamisnons. (JAKA/PIA10)
