DTI Antique urges consumers to look for ICC, PS marks

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Antique is calling on consumers to look for Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) stickers and Philippine Standard (PS) marks on commercial products.

The ICC sticker and PS Quality and/or Safety Mark serve as a certification that a product has undergone and successfully passed the required safety and quality criteria prescribed in the Philippine National Standard (PNS).

DTI Antique OIC provincial director Engr. Lynna Joy Cardinal said that products available in the market without these quality and safety marks are risky for use.

She added that the public must be able to identify legitimate ICC stickers and PS marks as fake ones also circulate in the market.

An ICC Sticker Verification System mobile application is currently available for download from Google Play and Apple App Store and can be used to spot fake ICC stickers.

For his part, Trade and Industry Development Specialist Glen Fernando said that the BPS has identified 87 pro-

ducts covered by the mandatory certification under the Bureau of Philippine Standards (BPS) Memorandum Circular No. 19-05, S. 2019.

These products include household appliances, consumer electronics, lighting and wiring devices, steel products, plastic pipes and ceramic products, cement and other construction materials, chemical products, and automotive-related products among others.

Fernando added that these products pose danger to life and property, thus the need to secure their compliance with the PNS.

Also, considering the Christmas season, he enjoins Antiqueños to be extra vigilant in purchasing lights, decorations, and pyrotechnics as these products are required to have safety certifications.

DTI Antique is holding a “Consumer Welfare Mandatory Products Quality and Safety Information Showcase” until October 18 at 2/F Robinsons Antique to raise awareness on the importance of ICC stickers and PS marks as a guarantee of the quality and safety of products.

Meanwhile, Consumer Protect San Jose de Buenavista President Marilou Llavan urged the DTI to further expand its information campaign, reach consumers in farther areas, and educate them of their rights and privileges. (AAL/BPS/PIA Antique)
