DPWH speeds up slope protection project in Iloilo City

ILOILO CITY (PIA) - - The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) VI is now speeding up the implementation of the Calajunan Creek slope protection project in Arevalo District in this city to ensure the protection and safety of the people living in the area.

As reported by DPWH Iloilo City District Engineering Office that is undertaking the project, the ongoing construction of the 430-meter revetment wall structure with approaches at Calajunan Creek amounting to P54.2 million is already more than halfway done and sees completion before the year ends.

"With the near completion of the revetment wall along Calajunan Creek in Arevalo, erosion and degradation of the riverbanks will be mitigated.  We expedite this project to ensure the safety of the people along the creek," said DPWH VI Regional Director Nerie Bueno.

Also, DPWH Iloilo City District Engineering Office District Engineer Cesar M. Hipona Jr. said once completed the revetment wall will help protect the lives of people and animals living along the creek from major floods during heavy storms.

“We quickly respond for the completion of this project as we prioritize the safety and protection of the residents against floods during natural disasters,” Hipona said.

The Calajunan Creek slope protection project involves the construction of concrete slope protection on steel sheet pile foundation. The project also includes clearing and removal of obstructions. (JBG/laf/PIA6-Iloilo/DPWH6)
