DTI 12 destroys violative products

KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato(PIA)--The Department of Trade and Industry here, with the presence of representatives from the Commission on Audit, media, and consumer groups disposed Monday , uncertified products such as wires and cables, steel bars, low carbon steel wire, sanitary ware, Christmas lights, monobloc stool, LED TV, electric blender, electric fan, electric stove self-ballasted LED lamps

South Cotabato provincial director and concurrent DTI 12 acting assistant regional director Rictoniel Reginio said the confiscated violative products were taken from the warehouses of the five business establishments in the province that were earlier subjected to legal proceedings and ordered to pay a fine of P25,000.00 for every product.

Reginio said the subject products that were crashed and destroyed in public are meant to serve as a stern warning to the business sector to comply with government standards and give preference to the safety of consumers.

The said products, worth more than P100,000 were seized from local stores during the conduct of their regular product surveillance and enforcement operations here in Koronadal City. Disposal in other areas will also follow, according to DTI report.

Officials of DTI 12 encourage consumers to check for PS and ICC marks before buying products under the Philippine National Standard (PNS) list of mandatory certifications.
