DTI awards livelihood kits to 77 MSMEs in Kalinga

CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga (PIA) - - Seventy seven micro-entrepreneurs from Rizal and Pasil recently received livelihood starter kits from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
 
Beneficiaries under the DTI’s Negosyo Serbisyo sa Barangay-Livelihood Seeding Program (NSB-LSP) are 25 micro-entrepreneurs in Rizal where 12 are engaged in food processing, three in carpentry service, four in food service, one in hairdressing service, three in furniture manufacturing, and two in trading sector.
 
In Pasil, 22 micro-entrepreneurs in the trading sector, wearables and homestyle industry, livestock sector, and food processing sector are also recipients of livelihood kits. The Pasil local government unit was acknowledged for the rapid increase of business licensees over the past few years.

DTI reminded the recipients on the importance of acquiring business registration and permits in order to qualify for further government assistance like capacity building training, product development, marketing and financing facilitation.
 
Jovelyn Tinio, co-owner of E.J. Food Products in Pasil, shared that their business expanded through the assistance from the government.  “I was inspired from the advices, programs and services of the DTI and DOST that made me decide to focus on developing our farm into more productive and income generating asset,” she said.
 
Tinio expressed her gratitude to DTI and DOST saying “Today, we are now reaping the fruits of our hardships and continuously expanding by making new products like cacao tablea and other fruit wine flavors.”
 

Meanwhile, DTI launched the Negosyo Center in Tinglayan and awarded P240, 000 worth of livelihood kits to 30 Tinglayanons.

DTI and the Chamber of Tabuk City-Kalinga Producers, Inc. and in cooperation with the Provincial Cooperative Enterprise Development Office  also  opened October Fair that runs until October 30 in celebration of the Consumer Welfare Month, Cooperative Month and Indigenous People's Month.

Governor James Edduba during the opening program presented the tagline agenda “LUMIN-AWA Kalinga,” which generally aims to benefit the MSMEs. He emphasized that if products are good then the sales are also good.
