MassKara Festival, a reminder of resiliency – Mayor Benitez

BACOLOD CITY (PIA) –- The comeback edition of the world-reknowned MassKara Festival, which traced back its inception in 1980 when tragedy and crisis hit the city, is a reminder of the resiliency of the Bacolodnons.

This, according to Bacolod City mayor Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez during his speech at the Arena Competition of the MassKara Festival at the Paglaum Sports Complex with no less than President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. as guest of honor.

“It is this MassKara Festival that became popular because during the 1980s when tragedy and crisis struck the city, we rose to the occasion and made this festival as a reminder of the resiliency of our people,” Benitez said.

This (MassKara Festival) is a test of our resiliency and our determination to ensure that in spite of tragedy and crisis, Benitez said, adding that Bacolodnos will overcome all obstacles.

Benitez cited the battle cry of the President “Bangon muli Pilipinas” as the same battle cry for Bacolod City “Bacolod bangon muli,” where the MassKara Festival this year uses the catchphrase “Balik Yuhum” or bring back the smile.

“Together with this administration, together with your leadership Mr. President, we can now be assured that moving forward Bacolod will be in greater heights,” Benitez added.

Meanwhile, MassKara 2022 Festival Director lawyer Pinky Mirano-Ocampo thanked Bacolodnons for showing their warm hospitality and for giving the Bacolod Yuhum Foundation Inc., the organizer of the festival, the chance to handle this year's festival.

“The turn-out of people in our events this past 23 days is overwhelming. I am elated with the show of support of the Bacolodnons. Salamat gid sa inyo tanan,” Mirano-Ocampo added. *(JBG/EAD-PIA6 Negros Occidental)
