PBBM leads inauguration of Upper East township to bolster city’s economy

BACOLOD CITY (PIA) - Viewed to boost the local economy, the inauguration of Upper East and unveiling of a Township Marker of the 34-hectare business area in Bacolod City amounting to P10 billion was led by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

The President was joined by other national and local dignitaries here this afternoon, October 23.

The township project is pioneered by Megaworld in the Philippines, bringing an integrated community embodying an upscale lifestyle hub where there are residential condominiums, lifestyle malls, commercial centers, BPO office towers, tourism and leisure facilities, transport hub, recreational parks, and open spaces as to establish an “exciting live-work-play environment.”

Earlier today, Kevin L. Tan, CEO of Alliance Global Group and Megaworld Chief Strategy Officer, held a tour for First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos on site. A tree planting activity and dedication of the Bitaog tree to the first lady was likewise held.

The project is expected to generate jobs to at least 100,000 workers, which could contribute in the development of city’s economy and provide more opportunities among the locals.

With this, Bacolod City mayor Alfredo Abelardo "Albee" Benitez expressed his support to the current administration with the goal of bringing out development, parallel with the President’s “Bangon Muli, Pilipinas” dream.

“This is a test of our resiliency and of our determination to ensure that in spite of

tragedy and crisis, we will overcome all obstacles. It is this event, the MassKara Festival, that became popular because during the 1980s, when tragedy and crisis struck the city, we rose to the occasion and made this festival as a reminder of the resiliency of our people," said Benitez during the culmination of this year's MassKara Festival.

Benitez added “Together, it is appropriate this time to ensure that the future is much much better than where we are right now. Together with this administration, together with your leadership Mister President, we can now be assured that moving forward, Bacolod will be in greater heights.”

Meanwhile, President Marcos acknowledged Bacolod City as a role model for the whole country as it has embodied the country’s recuperation from the pandemic.

“Pinakita ninyo sa buong Pilipinas at sa buong mundo na tayo dito ay nakabalik na; tayo ay handa na bumalik sa trabaho, bumalik na sa ekwelahan ang ating mga kabataan, at tayo ay babalik na sa ating dating ginagawa na pagandahin at pataasin ang ekonomiya ng Pilipinas para maging mas maginhawa ang buhay ng bawat Pilipino,” President Marcos stressed before a jam packed Paglaum

Sports Complex here for the highlight in today's final stretch of the festival..

According to the President “Ang Bacolod ay magiging halimbawa para sa buong Pilipinas. Aking sasabihin sa kanilang lahat na kung kaya nilang gawin ang Masskara Festival, dapat tayong lahay din ay ganyan din, na bumangon na tayo, at dahil ang aking pangako sa inyo ay tuloy-tuloy ang ating pagbangon.”

The activity formed part to President Marcos’ visit in Bacolod City with this year’s celebration of MassKara Festival themed as ‘Balik Yuhum’ or bring back the smile, living up to its moniker as the “City of Smiles.”

The event was held after two years since the onset of COVID-19 pandemic. (JBG/April Grace Padilla/PIA6)
