TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, Oct. 21 (PIA) -- Four municipalities in the Province of Bohol made their way into this year’s 10th Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) Summit held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City, Manila on Oct. 20.

Bohol received eight awards from different categories during the gathering of local chief executives where the most competitive cities, municipalities, and provinces for this year’s cycle were recognized.

The province made it to the top awards after the Municipality of Corella ranked Top 3 among the 5th to 6th Class municipalities, while the Municipality of Panglao ranked Top 4 among the 3rd to 4th Class municipalities as Overall Most Competitive Municipalities.

On the Economic Dynamism Pillar, the Municipality of Panglao received the award as Top 1 under the 3rd to 4th Class Municipalities Category while the Municipality of Jagna got the Top 6 slot.

On the Infrastructure Pillar, the Municipality of Panglao was awarded Top 2 under the 3rd to 4th Class Municipalities Category while the Municipality of Corella got the Top 7 slot under the 5th to 6th Class Municipalities Category.

Meanwhile, the Municipality of Corella received another award as Top 6 on Innovation Pillar under the 5th to 6th Class Municipalities Category and the Municipality of Inabanga was Top 7 on Resiliency Pillar under the 3rd to 4th Class Municipalities Category.

Panglao Mayor Edgardo Arcay received the awards for his municipality while Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Bohol Provincial Director Maria Soledad Balistoy received the awards on behalf of the Municipality of Corella.

In 2021, Panglao was also Top 1 on Economic Dynamism Pillar and Top 2 on Infrastructure Pillar under the 3rd to 4th Class Municipalities Category, the same ranking that the municipality was able to maintain for this year.

Other awardees last year were the municipalities of Jagna, Carmen, and Anda.

The CMCI is a program of the DTI through the Competitiveness Bureau that aims to measure the performance of cities and municipalities in the country based on four pillars: Economic Dynamism, Government Efficiency, Infrastructure, and Resiliency.

The program also aims to share best practices across the different regions allowing cities and municipalities to benchmark their performance against local and global standards. (ECB/PIA7 Bohol)
