Center for abused women, children inaugurated in Echague

CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela (PIA) - -The Local Government Unit of Echague in partnership with the Mengal Women Organization has formally opened and inaugurated its newly-completed center for abused and disadvantaged women and children.

Named as 'Mengal Women Center', the center is located in barangay San Fabian, Echague, Isabela and will be manned by the Mengal Women Organization.

Mengal Women Organization President Ma. Katrina Jessica Gallegos-Dy said the center will serve as new safe haven for abused and disadvantaged women and children from their municipality for them to live peacefully and secured.

“We founded the Mengal Women Organization 5 years ago because we saw the need to come with an entity that specifically takes care of the welfare of women and their children,” Gallegos-Dy, MW Organization founder, emphasized in an Audio-Visual Presentation of the center’s facilities, undertakings and long-term goals.

“The basic unit of society is family and women play a huge role especially mothers. If these women are the ones who are damaged, it actually damages the entire society,” the MW Organization founder added.

Vice Gov. Faustino G. Dy III, one of the benefactors for the realization of the center, lauded the efforts of the Mengal Women Organization and LGU Echague for establishing the center.

“Pagkat ang bawat ahensiya ay nagbigay ng kanilang suporta sa mga ganitong klase ng project, for sure, magiging maganda at magiging successful, magiging mahaba ang programa ng Mengal mother women. Kasi ‘yun ‘yung ating pinangangalagaan, ‘yung mga disadvantage ng women at children sa ating komunidad dito sating bayan ng Echague,” said the vice governor during his keynote address at the soft-opening on October 15.

MW organization also became one of the recipients of Google’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), which contributed 30% of the furniture inside the center according to an article published by the The Forum Publication.

“After a thorough process of background checking by Google’s third party international verifying partner or auditing partner, they approved us and Google since then has been renewing their partnership with us for the last 3 years,” said Gallego-Dy.

“Because of the funds they share with us we are able to purchase all of our initial furniture including our sewing training facility. Almost 30% of the furniture you’ll see in the whole property is sponsored by Google Philippines,” she added.
One-third of the entire facility is dedicated to income-generating enterprises (IGEs), such as the sewing facility and Food processing facility, which were provided by Google Philippines, DOST, and DTI.

The safety of women and children, on the other hand, takes up around two thirds of the whole institution. The center features a reception, offices, a prayer room, Special Education (SPED) center, a learning room, a playroom, a crisis center, a dining hall, and 36-person capacity dormitory.

“All of the clients that we will be accommodating in the center will be provided with shelter, security 24/7, medical assistance, healthy food three times a day, house parenting 24/7, legal services, education, therapy, psychosocial services, VAWC seminars, livelihood training, and spiritual formation,” the MW organization underscored.
