The Calanasan Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council said that at least 3,550 families have been affected by the recent rainfall and flooding incidents.
The local government of Calanasan also reported that the isolation of the whole municipality due to the closure of all its road access is the most pressing situation the municipality is facing today because of the disruption of the transportation of goods, services and people whereby a good number of commuters are stranded outside the municipality and along the way.
There is also scarcity of local supplies of basic and prime commodities, especially food items such as rice and other essential commodities at the moment because of supply dependency of the municipality from its neighboring communities such as in Cagayan and Ilocos Norte provinces.
Several road sections are still closed in the municipality and the DPWH along with the LGU and other volunteers continue to conduct clearing operations.
As of October 26, 2022, roads closed to traffic are the Poblacion to Namaltugan Road due to soil collapse at Gurid Section, the Poblacion to Eva Road due to an unstable slope at Rabaw Section, the Eva to Sta. Elena Road due to road cut at Salagunting Section, and the Namaltugan to Solsona Road due to a landslide.
Meanwhile, the Tanglagan to Eva Road is passable for motorcycles only while Tanglagan to Claveria Road is passable for all types of vehicles.
Prior to the road closures last week, the Apayao PDRRMO and the DSWD SWAD Apayao reached out and distributed relief goods to the affected families and individuals in Calanasan. (JDP/RMC- PIA CAR)
