ZamPen encounters power intervals due to tower bombing

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Oct. 25 (PIA) -- Most parts of Mindanao including Zamboanga Peninsula region, experience power interruptions due to the tower bombing transpired in Sitio San Isidro, Brgy. Bagombayan, Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte recently.

The bombing of Baloi-Aurora 138kV Transmission Line of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) resulted in Manual Load Dropping (MLD) to prevent overloading of the remaining line.

The bombing has caused the toppling of Tower No. 8 of the said line and ensued at 4:50PM last October 24, 2022.

Areas affected by the MLD are the entire Zamboanga Peninsula, namely Zamboanga del Norte (including Dipolog City and Dapitan City), Zamboanga del Sur (including Pagadian City), Zamboanga Sibugay Province, Zamboanga City and entire Misamis Occidental, and some parts of Lanao del Norte.

Meanwhile, still an unidentified individual was found at the scene with fatal injuries and remains unclear if this is related to the tower bombing.

The responding authorities have also confirmed that lawless elements used Improvised Explosive Device (IEDs) to cause the incident, thus this is now under investigation.

The NGCP is now closely coordinating with the Air Force of the Philippines (AFP) and local law enforcements to secure the area while their personnel are conducting repair works.

Also, the company stressed that bombings only serve to increase the burden of the public, which must suffer through power interruptions when towers are bombed.

NGCP reiterated that the conduct of suspicious activities within or along the power transmission corridor which may disrupt the transmission of power is punishable by law, with a penalty of as much as P200,000 or 12 years imprisonment and/or both.

Suspicious activities or ROW violations may be reported to NGCP through its TIP Hotline 0917-TIPNGCP (8476427) or 0918-TIPNGCP (8476427), or email to tipngcp@ngcp.ph. (NBE/EDT/JRA/PIA9-Zamboanga City/With reports from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines)
