BATAC CITY (PIA) – Some four micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSME) in Ilocos Norte joined in the Business-to-Business Meeting with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) on Tuesday as part of the 2022 Science and Technology Week celebration.
During the meeting, products, technologies, and other innovations were presented to the MSMEs to encourage them to be adopters of these technologies or sell DOST products in their business establishments.
According to DOST Ilocos regional director Dr. Armando Ganal, apart from showcasing the various technologies and innovations of the agency, the S&T Week will also serve as promotion of products generated by the DOST Research and Development Institute to various stakeholders, especially the business sector.
“Sa DOST, especially sa regional offices at ang Technology Application Promotional Institute (TAPI), ang ginagawa namin ay nagpo-promote ng mga produkto at mga teknolohiya na na-generate ng DOST Research and Development Institute sa mga negosyante upang matulungan sila” Ganal said.

DOST-TAPI, being the lead commercialization department of DOST innovations, is responsible for the promotion and transfer of technologies to the adaptors to implement it to their businesses.
Lawyer Marion Iy Dacena, director of DOST-TAPI, admitted that the transfer of technologies and innovations can be challenging; however, she assured that they are continuing their promotion programs to reach as many businesses and possible adaptors as possible.
“Ang technology for commercialization ay pinapasa namin sa mga negosyante para ito ay ma-adapt nila at later on, bibilhin nila para mas lumago pa ang kanilang business,” she said.
Aside from presenting products and technologies to the MSMEs, the DOST also encouraged the use of sustainable and environmentally friendly technologies to lessen their contribution to pollution.
“For MSMEs that want to be compliant with environmental concerns such as wastewater and reduce their energy costs, the DOST-TAPI is always open for them to acquire the needed equipment to achieve environmental compliance,” Dacena said. (JCR/AMB/EJFG/WVM, PIA Ilocos Norte)
