Gov’t provides aid to displaced families due to Typhoon Paeng

ILOILO CITY (PIA) – A total of P2,850,329.00 worth of assistance was provided by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 6, local government units (LGUs), and other national government agencies among the affected families in the onslaught of Severe Tropical Storm “Paeng” in the region since Oct. 27.

This was presented during the interagency meeting and press briefing led by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) 6 through the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) 6, held virtually today, Oct. 29.

An amassed number of 39,217 families or a total of 135,025 individuals from 259 barangays in Western Visayas was recorded to be affected by the typhoon.

As a response, 4,047 Family Food Packs (FFPs) were already distributed by the DSWD6 to the affected LGUs althroughout the region.

Likewise, Regional Operation Centers (ROCs) were activated and relief operations, provision of technical assistance to LGUs along camp management, displaced persons’ protection, and continuous Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC) report preparations were enforced by the agency.

Per DSWD6 report, the region has still a stockpile of 51,874 prepositioned Family Food Packs (FFPs) amounting to P27,598,832.00. There are also sufficient FFPs available in regional warehouses located in Oton, Iloilo and Bacolod City with 21,695 and 5,100 food packs available, respectively.

As for the non-food items (NFIs) composed of hygiene kits, sleeping kits, family kits, kitchen kits, laminated sacks, tents, blankets, bed sheets, malongs, foldable water jugs, collapsible water containers, and other NFIs, supply accounts to an overall total of P29,326,822.19.

DSWD 6 has also released P12,000 worth of cash assistance to stranded passengers in Iloilo City port.

FFPs from the regional warehouse of DSWD 6 are likewise bound to Aklan for augmentation to the affected families.

Meanwhile, per report of Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) 6 on the Management of the Dead and Missing Persons (MDM) during the press briefing, two confirmed casualties due to Typhoon Paeng in the region were logged, as of this writing. (JBG/April Grace Padilla/PIA6)
