LAMUT, Ifugao (PIA) - - The disaster preparedness and response of Mayoyao town  got a boost  from   Department of Science and Technology (DOST)  with    the provision of communication equipment and   training  on Early Warning System (EWS) and radio communications.

The DOST-Cordillera through Provincial Science and Technology Office-Ifugao( PSTO-Ifugao) Director     Genna B. Jallorina   turned-over 15 units of handheld radios and one base radio  worth Php184, 250.00 to the local government unit for distribution  to barangay-beneficiaries.

The provision of the radio communication equipment is one of the S & T interventions of the project, Community Empowerment Thru Science and Technology (CEST) for Mayoyao, Ifugao that aims for the strengthening of  EWS  to mitigate disaster and hazard occurrences in the barangays of Mayoyao with no cell phone signals.

The  PSTO-Ifugao also conducted Disaster Risk Reduction Management training  to  participants from 13 barangays of Mayoyao,  the local government unit and the municipal DRRM Office on October 26-27.

Resource speakers from the DOST and the National Telecommunications Commission discussed disaster prevention and mitigation, geological hazards, early warning system and hydro meteorological hazards , and radio laws and regulations, traffic handling procedures and operation of land mobile equipment.

Participants had hands-on experience on the operation and maintenance of radio communication equipment. Actual testing of the Municipal Radio Communications Network was also conducted. (JDP/MBL- PIA CAR, Ifugao)
