Isabela City Tourism Project wins DILG Layag Award

ISABELA CITY, Basilan, Oct. 30 (PIA) - The Isabela City tourism project “Pusaka Heritage Series and Development” won the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Layag Award for Excellence in Local Governance for Tourism 2022.

Isabela City Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman and Claudio Ramos II, City Tourism Officer received the award during the 2022 Local Governments’ Month Celebration of Zamboanga Peninsula held in Zamboanga City.

The Isabela City Tourism Office's “Pusaka Heritage Series and Development Project” aims to promote the vibrant culture and heritage of every Isabeleño through the conduct of several forums and workshops to generate more stories and narratives about Isabela de Basilan and the entire province as a whole.

The Isabela City Tourism advanced their project through different trainings conducted in partnership with the Department of Tourism such as culinary, food preparation, tour guiding, water search and rescue, hotel and resorts training and drivers as tourists champions.

The Isabela City Pusaka Heritage Series and Development project also focuses on art heritage online series which is a digital awareness campaign highlighting the various art forms of Isabela City de Basilan.

In his facebook post, Claudio M. Ramos II is grateful for winning in the DILG’s 2022 Layag Award for Excellence in Local Governance and he also congratulates Mayor Sitti Djalia T. Hataman and his City Tourism team for their accomplishment.

“Congratulation to the LGU of Isabela de Basilan led by our inspiring woman of action and change Mayor Sitti Djalia T. Hataman and to the walang kapagurang bida-bida Isabela City Tourism team for all the hard work and perseverance to create meaningful avenues in shaping a better HAPIsabela for everyone,” Ramos said.

Meanwhile, Mayor Sitti Djalia T. Hataman in her facebook post as she also congratulated the City Tourism Office headed by Claudio M. Ramos II for winning the 2022 Layag Award, she also expressed excitement for more good news about Isabela City.

“At hindi po dito nagtatapos ang magagandang balita, patuloy ang pamamayagpag ng Isabela City sa iba’t ibang pamantayan ng DILG,” Mayor Sitti Djalia T. Hataman said.

The City Government of Isabela as recipient of the Local Government (DILG) Layag Award for Excellence in Local Governance has met the eligibility criteria for tourism, namely: implemented programs/projects/activities from the period of September 30, 2021 to September 30, 2022 that specifically addresses gaps and challenges in local governance for tourism, have implemented programs with verifiable and significant results and the LGU took the lead in the implementation of programs funded by non-government partners.

For Isabela City, “Pusaka Heritage Series” is a campaign that would allow them to share not just to the Isabeleños and Basileños but also to all Filipinos how Isabela City de Basilan is rich in terms of tangible and intangible local cultural resources and heritage that will highlight and reflect the lives of Isabeleños.

Aside from the Layag Award for Excellence in Local Governance for Tourism, the city government also bagged other awards, namely Layag Award for Excellence in Local Governance for the Gender and Development Governance Area, Top Performing LGU during the 2022 Local Committees on Anti-Trafficking and Violence Against Women and their Children (LCAT-VAWC) Functionality Assessment and SKALA Award or Sangguniang Kabataan Awards for Leadership and Administration.

With this achievements, Mayor Sitti DjaliaTurabin-Hataman expressed her gratitude to all those who worked hard for the gains of the city.

“We hope to be able to sustain the small gains and successes we have achieved, and may these be our contribution to the Region. If in the past we had nothing to offer, we want to prove that if given the chance, we can contribute to Zamboanga Peninsula’s strength and progress,” Mayor  Turabin-Hataman expressed.
