300 Ifugao lady legislators commended

 

LAMUT, Ifugao (PIA) - - Three hundred two female  legislators  in the province were recognized for their    contributions in passing quality laws for the benefit of the community. 

Department of the Interior and Local Government – Cordillera Assistant Regional Director Ruperto B. Maribbay, Jr, Vice-Governor Glenn Prudenciano and Sangguniang Panlalawigan  members awarded   Certificates of Recognition to the lady legislators during the Local Legislator’s Day held at the Lagawe Central School gymnasium recently.

Recognized are  one SP member, two municipal mayors, nine Sangguniang Bayan members and 290 Sangguniang Barangay members  from the municipalities Asipulo, Hingyon, Lagawe, Lamut and Mayoyao.

Majority of the  elected women officials in the  barangay  level  are from  Barangays  Nungawa and Cawayan in Asipulo,  Ubuag in Hingyon ; Tungngod, Lagawe; Poblacion East, Lamut;  Inwaloy, Langayan and Liwo  in Mayaoyao. All have four legislators each except for Nungawa which has five.  

The awarding of certificates to the women legislators was one of the highlights  of the  celebration of  Legislators Day  in the Province  every  October 10  which is  institutionalized under Provincial Ordinance No. 2014-50.

Maribbay who represented DILG – CAR Regional Director Araceli A. San Jose as guest of honor and speaker lauded the officialdom of the Province for holding the event to  recognize and celebrate the significance of a strong and working local legislature as a vital element in nourishing democracy at the government levels.

“Legislator’s Day gives a new meaning to public service for lawmakers, and it is a challenge for them to keep on proposing laws to make people’s life better. Lawmaker requires an open mind and innovativeness, all for the purpose of serving the people beyond the ordinary,” he said.

Maribbay also encouraged the legislator’s to be innovative and collaborative to other stakeholders such as private sectors and civil society organizations.
