CITY OF BIÑAN, Laguna (PIA) — The City Government of Biñan announced late Monday, October 31 that the entire city has been placed under state of calamity due to the extensive damage brought by the Tropical Storm 'Paeng' to its approximately 7,900 constituents.
The Biñan City Council, on its emergency session Monday afternoon, has approved Resolution No. 105 - (2022), declaring the state of calamity in order to properly assist and help their affected residents.
According to the October 31 data of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), there are 7,899 affected population in the Biñan, or 1,359 families and 5,620 individuals.
All of the city’s barangays were affected by the flooding, where at least 11 barangays were seriously affected and submerged in flood, namely Casile, Dela Paz, Malaban, Mamplasan, Platero, San Antonio, San Jose, San Vicente, Sto. Domingo, Sto. Tomas, and Sto. Niño. The remaining 13 barangays also noted flooded homes and streets during the onslaught of the storm.
According to Vice Mayor Angelo Amante, the condition of the city were initially assessed by Biñan CSWDO and made the recommendation of declaring a state of calamity to use the calamity funds intended for the residents’ recovery.
In a Facebook post, Mayor Walfredo Dimaguila Jr. said that they have issued a recommendation to elementary to high school public schools in the city to implement a Modular Distance Learning from November 2 to 4, 2022, as some schools are still being used as evacuation centers of those temporarily displaced from their homes.
Dimaguila added that the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) and its barangay counterparts are actively going around the city to conduct water flushing operations and road clearing efforts to remove the thick mud left by the high flood water. (CH/PIA-Laguna)
