Cabsecs assure help for Antique

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) -- Several cabinet secretaries of the Marcos administration assured help as they visited the province, November 2.

President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. sent the key officials to attend a briefing and conduct an aerial inspection on the extent of damage to Antique caused by Severe Tropical Storm "Paeng."

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan is greeted upon arrival at the Evelio B. Javier (EBJ) Airport by Antique District Engineering Office officials, Rep. Antonio Agapito Legarda, Jr., and San Jose de Buenavista Mayor Elmer Untaran.

Among those present were Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin "Benhur" Abalos Jr., Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Undersecretary Alan A. Tanjusay, Department of National Defense OIC-Secretary Jose Faustino, Jr., and the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Administrator Undersecretary Raymundo B. Ferrer.

Abalos said that they are in the province per the directive of President Marcos, adding that the cabinet secretaries will list down the needs of the Antiqueños for recovery and rehabilitation.

For his part, Secretary Bonoan said  that measures to restore mobility in the province are ongoing, particularly on the Paliwan Bridge which the official said is a priority.

Efforts to rehabilitate road depressions along the Antique (Hamtic)-Iloilo (San Joaquin) national road continue, he added.

With disruptions in road networks, delivery of goods and resources from the neighboring provinces of Aklan and Iloilo into the southern part of Antique remains hampered.

Faustino said that he will coordinate with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to move a navy asset into this part of the country and facilitate the mass transport of goods and resources.

He added that the national government will provide the support and assistance needed by Antique in this time of calamity.

The cabinet secretaries were welcomed to the province by Governor Rhodora Cadiao and Antique Lone District Representative Antonio Agapito Legarda, Jr. together with other provincial officials and the Local Chief Executives (LCE) from various municipalities who also aired their concerns.

Governor Cadiao then thanked the secretaries for coming to the province and expressed her hope in receiving necessary aid from the national government.
