Food packs, other goods airlifted to calamity affected towns in Apayao

BAGUIO CITY (PIA) -- Airlifting of food and non-food items for the typhoon and  prolonged rain -affected towns of Apayao province started on Wednesday(November 2) .

With the improvement of the weather, operatives from the Philippine Air Force Tactical Operations Group 2   were dispatched to deliver family food packs and other non-food items in the municipalities of Calanasan and Kabugao.

This was reported during the Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management  Council  Response Cluster virtual meeting on Wednesday  presided by Department of Social Welfare and Development-Cordillera (DSWD-CAR) Assistant Regional Director for Operations Amelyn Cabrera.

 Personnel from the DSWD, Kalinga Provincial Police Office with the 141SAC, 14SAB, PNPSAF, Bureau of Fire Protection-Kalinga and the Philippine Army loaded the food packs to the air assets which were stationed at the Camp Captain Juan Duyan in Tabuk City.

From the landing zone in Poblacion, Calanasan, the goods will be immediately   delivered to the affected barangays.  

The use of the air assets was coordinated by the Office of Civil Defense -CAR thru Regional Director Albert Mogol to the Philippine Air Force TOG 1 and 2 and the AFP Northern Luzon Command.

The local government of Calanasan thru Mayor Shamir Bulut has requested the DSWD thru Cordillera Regional Director Leo Quintilla for   additional FFPs  for the  the families in the municipality affected by the heavy rains and   Tropical Cyclone  Neneng   and   aggravated by Tropical Cyclone Paeng over the weekend.

Bulut said that the road lines leading to the municipality have been on a close-open situation due to the numerous landslides, road cuts and erosions,  impeding  the normal trade and commerce resulting to the scarcity of basic necessities and prime commodities in the municipality.

The municipality of Calanasan was  placed under state of calamity  since October 20, 2022.

Meanwhile, the DSWD-CAR reported that family food packs will also be air lifted to Kabugao, Apayao  for families affected by the recent calamities. (JDP/RMC PIA-CAR) (Calanasan LGU photos)
