Paeng leaves P2B damage to roads, bridges

QUEZON CITY -- As of Thursday, November 3, 2022, partial cost of damage to national roads, bridges, and flood-control structures of Tropical Storm “Paeng” has reached P2.09 Billion.

Citing a report from the Department of Public Works and Highways Bureau of Maintenance, total cost of damage, subject for field validation, on national roads was placed at P917.80 Million, P523.80 Million on national bridges, and P652.76 Million on flood control structures.

By location, Cordillera Administrative Region has P227.02 Million in infrastructure damage, Region 1 with P58.40 Million, Region 2 with P61.03 Million, Region 3 with P54.50 Million, Region 4-A with P967.09 Million, Region 4-B with P130.40 Million, Region 5 with P74.83 Million, Region 6 with P150.41 Million, Regio 7 with P8 Million, Region 8 with P60 Million, Region 12 with P102.68 Million, and BARMM with P200 Million.

Meanwhile, as of 6:00 today, 24 road sections in CAR, Regions 2, 3, 4-A, 6, 8, 12, and BARMM are still closed to traffic due to damaged pavement/slope protection, road cut, collapsed bridge, damaged bridge approach, flooding, and fallen debris among others.

Affected sections are the following:

LUZON

  • Claveria - Calanasan - Kabugao Road, in Salagunting Section, Eva, Calanasan, Apayao due to road cut;
  • Congressman Andres Acop Cosalan Road in Sitio Bileng, Brgy. Duacan, Kabayan, Benguet due to soil collapse;
  • Banaue - Hungduan - Benguet Boundary Road (Tertiary Road) Tulludan and Tukucan sections in Tinoc, Ifugao due to soil collapse, damaged pavement and shoulder;
  • Lubuagan - Batong Buhay - Abra Boundary Road in Dangtalan and Balatoc Pasil section; Lower Uma, Lubuagan section; and
  • Batongbuhay, Lubuagan section in Kalinga due road slip, soil and rock collapse, debris flow
  • Balbalan - Pinukpuk Road, Maling Section in Balbalan, Kalinga due to debris flow;
  • Manila North Road, K0611+680 Claveria Bridge detour in Cagayan due to damaged bridge approach;
  • Cabagan-Sta. Maria Overflow Bridge, Cabagan Sta. Maria Road in Isabela due to high water elevation;
  • Gamu-Roxas Road Carappigan Bridge K0404+400 Isabela due to high water elevation;
  • Nueva Ecija-Aurora Road K0211+786, Diteki River Detour Road in Aurora due to high water elevation;
  • Talisay-Laurel-Agoncillo Road, Brgy. Bugaan, Laurel, Batangas K0096+950 due to collapsed slope protection;
  • Tagaytay - Taal Lake Road, Brgy. San Jose, Tagaytay City, Cavite due to fallen debris/ landslide;
  • Bantilan Bridge along Brgy. Manggalang-Bantilan, Sariaya, Quezon due to collapsed bridge.

VISAYAS

  • Iloilo-Antique Road Paliwan Bridge in Brgy. Cubay North, Bugasog and Old Ypayo Bridge in Poblacion, Patnongon, Antique due to collapsed bridge and reflected cracks between bridge abutment and approach;
  • Bugo-Gen. Fullon Road. Igmataning Bridge, K0130+(589), Sinundulan, San Remigio, Antique due to flooded carriageway and collapsed road slope protection;
  • Sibalom-Pis-anan Road (Tertiary Road) K0111+300, Brgy. Nagdayao, Sibalom, Antique due to road cut;
  • Iloilo Antique Road, Oyungan Bridge in Brgy. Oyungan, Miag-ao Iloilo due to bridge settlement, soil collapse and damaged slope protection;
  • Guimbal-Igbaras-Tubungan-Leon Road K0035+220, Brgy. Nito-an, Guimbal Iloilo due to road slip;
  • Jaro-Dagami-Burauen-La Paz Road, Brgy. Moguing, Burauen, Leyte, Marabong Bridge due to settlement of pier;

MINDANAO

  • Awang-Upi-Lebak-Kalamansig Palimbang-Sarangani Road in Brgy Sta Clara to Brgy Paril Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat and Namat Masla Bridge, K1989+634 in Brgy. Namat Masla,Sultan Kudarat due to soil collapse and scoured embankment at abutment, damaged revetment;
  • Sen. Ninoy Aquino-Lebak Kalamansig Road, Upper Limulan Bridge in Brgy. Limulan, Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat due to scoured bridge abutment A and scoured embankment under approach slab;
  • Isulan Jct-Ninoy Aquino Road, Bagumbayan Bridge, Brgy. Poblacion, Bagumbayan, Sultan Kudarat due to scoured approach;
  • Cotabato-Lanao Road, Sarakan Bridge in Matanog, Maguindanao and Libuan Bridge, (abandoned bridge) due to abutment failure and scoured abutment;
  • Highway Tamontaka - Jct Tapian Wharf Road, Tinabon (Ledepan) Bridge, Brgy Badak, Datu Odin Sinsuat, and sections in Brgy. Badak, Datu Odin Sinsuat, K1864+500 - K1868+-291 and Tapian Bridge, K1866+705, Brgy. Tapian due to collpased bridge and soil erosion; and
  • Marbel-Allah Valley-Cotabato Road, K1796 + 125, Kabulnan Bridge, Brgy Labu Labu, Datu Hoffer, Maguindanao due to scoured bridge abutment.

Concerned DPWH Quick Response Teams were instructed to expedite clearing operations along remaining closed roads while ensuring warning signs and barricades are installed for public’s safety. (DPWH)
