GSIS urges members to use touch mobile app

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)--Maximizing the use of digitalization in handling transactions, the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) asks their almost 600,000 members in Mindanao to download the GSIS Touch--a mobile-based application where members and pensioners can access their records.

"Ang GSIS Touch is one of the breakthroughs ng (of) GSIS. This was conceived in response to the pandemic kasi nu'ng nag-pandemic bawal ang close contact, hindi pwedeng yung mga members natin pumunta sa counter (because during the pandemic, close contact was not allowed and our members were not permitted to go to our counters)," GSIS Vice President for Mindanao Office Vilma Fuentes said in a press conference, November 4, to also highlight the agency's 65th anniversary.

She added that with the GSIS Touch, any member or pensioner can simply transact from the comfort of their homes.

Aside from their records, active GSIS members could also generate tentative computations of their loan and claim benefits, and submit loan and benefit applications. It also provides access to the online Guide to Transactions and Processes (GTAP), the first electronic Citizen's Charter in the Philippine government.

Upon registration, Fuentes reminded the active members that, as an agency compliant with data privacy, a one-time password will be sent to the members' mobile number.

"Pag kayo ay nag-register sa (If you register in the) GSIS Touch, you must have an updated contact information dahil hindi kayo makakaregister ‘pag ang hawak mo na telepono (because you could not register if the phone that you are holding) where you are registering is not the number registered in our database. That is for your security of course," she added.

As for the approval of the loan and claim benefits, Fuentes said it would only take three days, upon the approval of the agency authorized officer (AAO), for the loan to be credited to the member's account.

Those who will have difficulties using the mobile application may still use the GSIS Wireless Automated Processing System (GWAPS) or they may personally hand in their requests to the nearest GSIS office. Fuentes added that their team also conducts home visits, especially for members with disabilities.

Shedding light on the issuance of the unified multipurpose identification (UMID), Erwin Casicas, GSIS CDO branch manager said, "Pwede na nga wala’y UMID because we have made an alternative method para ta maka-transact sa GSIS (We can do away with UMID because we have made an alternative method so you can transact with GSIS)."

As of November 3, 2022, Casicas said there are 476,652 active GSIS members nationwide who are using the said mobile application. (RTP/PIA-10)
