SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) -- The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has proposed P226,698,210.00 in assistance for Severe Tropical Storm Paeng hit-areas in Western Visayas.

This was disclosed by DOLE assistant regional director lawyer Dax Villaruel in a situation briefing on the effects of Paeng in Western Visayas today, Nov. 8, in San Jose, Antique.

The briefing was presided by Pres. Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr. along with some cabinet officials, national government agencies executives and Antique officials led by Rep. Antonio Agapito B. Legarda Jr. and Gov. Rhodora Cadiao.

"Our proposed assistance consists of the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP)and the Tulong Panghanapbuhay Para sa Mga Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD)," Villaruel said, adding that these will benefit a total of 41,093 target beneficiaries in the region.

The DILP will open economic opportunities to the vulnerable and marginalized workers by providing them access to grant assistance for capacity building on entrepreneurial ventures for either individual or group undertaking.

Further, TUPAD is a community-based package of assistance that will provide emergency employment for displaced workers, the underemployed and the unemployed poor for a minimum of 10 days but not to exceed 90 days depending on the nature of work.

During the visit, the President also gave nearly P1-million worth of Pangkabuhayan package for the 56 beneficiaries from Brgy. Igbarawan in Patnongon, Antique. (JBG/AAL/PIA6)
