PBBM leads turnover of agri aid to Antique farmers

SAN JOSE, ANTIQUE (PIA) -- President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos, Jr. led the turnover of agricultural support among the farmers who were affected by Severe Tropical Storm (STS) Paeng, here, November 8.

The provision of assistance from various programs of the Department of Agriculture (DA) 6 through the province was done with Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao along with other key officials and stakeholders receiving the interventions.

Part of interventions for the farmers awarded to the Province of Antique were the P177,465,000.00 cash assistance from Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF)- Rice Farmers’ Financial Assistance Program to be given to at least 35,493 rice farmer-beneficiaries; 60 units of 30-footer fiber-reinforced plastic boats with marine engine for the fisherfolk; 2,000 packs of 9-in-one vegetable seeds worth P970,000.00 from the DA’s High Value Crops Development Program; palay seeds under the RCEF-Seed Allocation Program amounting to P13,000,000.00 intended for 6,843 rice

farmers, and turnover of veterinary drugs such as biologics, multivitamins, dewormers, antibacterials and disinfectants worth P42,950.00 under the DA’s Livestock Program.

Agricultural assistance was focused on the fishery and rice farming communities as these have been by far the most-affected industries in the onslaught of STS Paeng with overall damages and loss values recorded in Western Visayas as of Nov. 7 at P929,412,268.66 (52.36%) and P706,812,276.49 (39.80%), respectively.

Meanwhile, President Marcos assured the Antiqueños of a promise to rise again together amidst the adversities.

“Iyong ating sinasabi, ‘yung ating sinisigaw noong kampanya na 'sama-sama tayong babangon muli' nagsimula na. Kaya’t tuloy-tuloy na ang ating pagbangon dito sa Pilipinas. Asahan po ninyo na lagi po kaming nandiyan kahit ‘di niyo po kami nakikita. Pagka mayroong ganitong bagyo at may mga naging biktima ay alam po namin ang mga pangyayari at ginagawa po namin lahat,” President Marcos noted. (JBG/AGP/PIA6)
