PSA: Batanes remains the richest province in CagVal

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA) - - The Cagayan Valley Region has registered 11.7% poverty incidence rate based on the 2021 Family Income and Expenditure Survey, Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Region 2 revealed. 

On the provincial data, Batanes registered the lowest poverty incidence rate at 2.6% which means that it remains to be considered the richest among the five provinces in the region. 

Marilyn T. Estrada, regional director, said the province of Isabela registered the highest rate at 15.9%, followed by Nueva Vizcaya at 10.8%, Cagayan at 7.3% and Quirino at 6.2%. 

On the subsistence incidence among families, Estrada said the provinces have the same standing in which Isabela has the highest rate at 4.0%, followed by Nueva Vizcaya at 2.9%,  Cagayan at 1.2%, Quirino at 0.9% and Batanes with only 0.2%. 

"The subsistence incidence is defined as the proportion of Filipinos whose income is not enough to meet even just the basic food needs," Estrada said.

On the national level, the Cagayan Valley Region's poverty incidence rate is lower than the national level which is at 13.2%. 


Among the country's  regions, Cagayan Valley registered the highest poverty incidence rate  in northern Luzon but lower than the poverty incidence rate in the Visayas and Mindanao regions. (BME/OTB/PIA 2)
