KALIBO, Aklan (PIA) -- The province of Aklan and its four municipalities are this year’s recipients of Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) award from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) for upholding and putting primacy on the standard of integrity and good performance.

Based on the list released by the DILG, Aklan was among the three provinces in Western Visayas that were recognized as 2022 SGLG passers for the province category. Other provinces were Antique and Iloilo.

It could be recalled that the province of Aklan consecutively made it on the list as SGLG passers for five years from 2015 to 2019.

Meanwhile, for the municipal category, the region has 24 awardees; four of which came from Aklan – the local government units of Kalibo,Malay, Ibajay and New Washington.

The SGLG, also known as “Pagkilala sa Katapatan at Kahusayan ng Pamahalaang Lokal,” is awarded annually to deserving provinces, cities, and municipalities that perform well in ten governance areas - financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection and sensitivity, health compliance and

responsiveness, sustainable education, business-friendliness and competitiveness, safety, peace, and order, environmental management, tourism, heritage development, culture and arts, and youth development.

Due to Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the assessment and awarding ceremonies were stopped in 2020 and 2021.

Aside from SGLG marker, awardees for this year will be entitled or eligible to the SGLG incentive fund to finance their local government initiatives and access to capacity development assistance from the DILG. (AAL/SQP/PIA-Aklan)
